Lift Your Spirits with a Brazilian Butt Lift
Looking great is no longer just about putting your best face forward—today, what’s behind you matters every bit as much. The pursuit of a balanced, shapely figure has led many women to consider getting what is known as a “Brazilian Butt Lift” (BBL). During this plastic surgery procedure, fat is removed from one area of the body (usually the abdomen) and injected into the buttocks, making them larger, rounder, and perkier.
If you’re interested in having a Brazilian Butt Lift, there are a few things you’ll need to know. Before you decide whether or not this procedure is right for you, consult the list of BBL facts below:
4 Things to Consider Before Having a Brazilian Butt Lift
1. Brazilian Butt Lift surgery is invasive.
Many people make the mistake of assuming that fat transfer procedures, like the Brazilian Butt Lift, are safer and easier to recover from than most plastic surgeries. However, just because a natural compound (fat) is used to sculpt the body during BBL surgery, does not mean this procedure is in any way minor. On the contrary, because work is done on two separate sites during BBL surgery (the abdomen and the buttocks), you can expect to spend a while recovering from this procedure. You can also expect the procedure itself to take between 5 and 8 hours to complete. If a surgeon tells you that he or she can complete a BBL in significantly less time than this, you can rest assured that he or she plans to take harmful shortcuts.
While you heal from having a butt lift, you’ll need to make alterations to your lifestyle. You will have to take 7 to 14 days off of work immediately after you have surgery, and you will not be able to resume exercising for at least 4 weeks. Furthermore, during the first two weeks of your recovery, you will not be able to sit or rest on your buttocks. Typically, complete recovery from Brazilian Butt Lift surgery takes 4 to 6 weeks.
2. The plastic surgeon performing your BBL must be board certified and experienced.
Because Brazilian Butt Lift surgery is so complex, surgeons who perform this procedure must be highly skilled. Indeed, there have been a number of reports of patients experiencing complications during BBL surgery because they didn’t select a sufficiently trained surgeon. Always verify that your chosen plastic surgeon is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Ideally, he or she should also be a member of one or more reputable plastic surgery societies, such as The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Even if your surgeon is board certified, you should take the time to make sure that he or she is experienced in the area of performing fat grafting procedures. Ask for “before and after” photographs depicting Brazilian Butt Lift procedures the surgeon has performed in the past.
3. You should discuss how the fat needed to fill out your buttocks will be harvested and processed.
How the fat used during BBL procedures is collected and processed matters; for best results, harvested fat must be handled carefully during the purification process. Fat that is processed improperly will not remain in place after it is injected into the buttocks. Instead, the damaged fat cells will be reabsorbed by the body.
In order to ensure you get the best shape possible, make sure your surgeon takes the appropriate precautions. Harvesting fat evenly and thoroughly to make sure your donor site (often your abdomen and hips) has a smooth, slim contour. To ensure the fat cells aren’t damaged, your surgeon should use the correct size cannulas as well as the correct level of suction. It’s also important to use the separate the fat carefully before reinjecting it into the buttocks. Transferring the fat in layers and to the appropriate locations in the buttocks allows for optimal fat retention for the best shape possible.
4. Brazilian Butt Lift surgery produces beautiful, natural-looking results.
While fat transfer procedures are complex and work-intensive, there is no denying the fact that they produce natural-looking results. No one will be able to tell that you’ve had a Brazilian Butt Lift unless you tell them, and your buttocks will look and feel completely authentic—because they are! For this reason, many women prefer the BBL to other posterior-enhancing procedures, e.g. the placement of butt implants.
